SONG REVIEW: THOUGHTS FROM ‘BLACK EXCELLENCE’ BY SARKODIE

Nobody designs like us, nobody creates like us and nobody can do it like us. But until we believe in ourselves, move away from mental slavery, make investments, find true happiness, we will forever remain the villain in our own story.

The truth is, we are constantly discovering new ways, challenging the norm and rewriting the rules. We can only make a statement from our observations over a period of time, present our thoughts to the people to spark a new chain of conversations. Just like Sarkodie nobody has gotten it all figured out yet.

5micsGh.com, Ghana’s original contents hub, reviewing and rating brand, presents some thoughts from the latest masterpiece by Africa’s most consistent and awarded rapper – Sarkodie of Sarkcess Music.

Sarkodie discusses “Black Excellence”, celebrates some Ghanaian legends, addresses some current affairs in the country, features the President and most importantly advises the youth. The record was produced by Nova and it is loaded with ‘food’ that must be digested to the fullest.

Our review of the song highlights some thoughts from the song and how best it applies to all of us if we want to achieve ‘Black Excellence’.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Black Excellence is believing in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself no one will make you feel better about yourself.  It’s a war outside and everyone is trying to win. The world doesn’t owe you anything but you owe yourself to be the best individual in the world. So stop wishing and start doing, stop expecting favours from people and start making efforts to become the greatest person in the world.

If you don’t believe you can do it, all other efforts by the second and third parties will be in vain. If you don’t believe you can pass an examination, the work of the teacher will be futile at the long run.

MOVE AWAY FROM MENTAL SLAVERY

The mind is a very powerful tool, use it right. Put your mind to whatever you want to achieve and believe it is possible. When you conceive a positive thought and constantly feed on it, the mind will buy into it. The mind will give you reasons why you need to do more to bring that idea to light and at the end of the day you will see your actions gravitating towards achieving that goal. Because the mind is well tuned.

Thou not physically enslaved, we are still enslave to ideas, theories and brands which are worse off than the chains. Stories that we have being told, brands that we are dying to be a part of and products that we wish to have and more are directly or indirectly affecting us mentally.

Don’t believe everything you have being told, make your own research, draw your own conclusions and see things through your mind’s eye.

MAKE THE NECESSARY INVESTMENTS

Life is full of choices. The choices we make can either help us or hurt us. To invest or not is a choice. As a creative person or an artiste, you can either choose to invest into your craft or not.

As an individual, you can choose to invest in yourself by buying books and other resourceful materials to read or waste your time on other things. As an artiste, you can choose to pay for your sound productions, shoot quality videos, engage promoters or spend your time and money on friends and slay queens to be the coolest guy in town whiles your music career sinks. Choose Wisely!

TRUE HAPPINESS IS PEACE

Peace is a virtue. Don’t trade it for attention. Be yourself and be content with what you have. Don’t do things just to impress others, do things that you are at peace with.

WORD ON THE STREETS

Word on the streets has it that, for one who is quite known for his Kanye-inspired fashion sense, a one-time fashion brand investor, it is very self-contradicting to tell the same people you once sold Sark Collections to that what they wear is not important. Was it important when you were in business and now that you are no more, it does not matter?

Maybe Sarkodie is rapping from experience. That truly clothes don’t matter and as a matter of fact, it was a bad move on his side to have invested so much into the Sark Collection brand. And since he is no more in the fashion business, he can say what has been on his heart for years.
