Greetings young kings and queens, a couple of days ago, Omar Sterling, one half of the R2Bees music group served us with his thoughts on beats. Titled ‘Death Before Dishonor’, the freestyle was produced by the legendary Killbeatz.
Before you pledge your allegiance to anybody or anything, before you share in this oath, allow this review to help you dissect and reflect on some of the truth that Omar Sterling shared with us in the song.
Death Before Dishonor; The Truth About Karma, presented by 5micsGh.com, Ghana’s only reviewing and rating platform and brand, don’t forget to leave your comments below as well.
VICTORY THROUGH HARMONY
This is not about the critically acclaimed mixtape by Omar Sterling, though undoubtedly a great body of work. Or some of his similar heavily-loaded introspective songs, like Tema Motorway Freestyle or Building Bridges. This is about the journey of life and the imbalance of ‘happy times’ and ‘sad stories’, the fame and the money.
Maybe this whole life is about the equilibrium of victory and harmony. What we do before and after finding that peace is equally important as the balance that we so much desire. Some will say regardless I need this victory; it doesn’t matter who I hurt but remember ‘life is full of karma’ and it is not always harmonious.
PROTECT YOUR STATE OF MIND
Omar Sterling shares the story of how his friend ‘buckled him up’ when he was down, in line with the good old saying, ‘one good turn deserves another’. This goes to show what goes around surely comes around in the line that he said
‘what you do for others you only do for you’
Don’t do unto others what you would not like them do unto you. And whenever you get the chance to be of help, just do your best. No one knows tomorrow. If you choose to live by the gun be prepared for your bullets any day.
The truth about karma is that the ratio is always proportional. Just in case you decide to ‘cheat your way up’ be prepared to face it and never run, be the man.
Cherish your peace of mind and protect your state of mind. Do what you do with it and make sure you do what pleases you.
‘Having never left the house you are looking for your way home’, this is how far ahead of our time that we are as a generation. And Omar Sterling just hit the nail on the head.
Take it a day at a time, you are not in competition with anyone. Like a friend told me, ‘this fight is against poverty not our friends’. How many of us lose sight of how vision or get scared by other people’s success? By hating, you simply deny yourself what is due you. With a clean heart and a positive mind, we can equally reap our blessings. Don’t ask for what you don’t need just to compete with your friends.
‘what you need will only come to you if you don’t ask for what you don’t need’
Live a peaceful life and never indulge in violence. Be that person to heal the world of all these unfortunate events. Be the light to of the generation.
Word on the street is, this is not the first time Omar Sterling has proven himself as a lyricist. Killbeatz gave the perfect low tempo background to the spoken words. Like a man who just had a taste of his own medicine, obviously Omar Sterling is not rapping like he is in competition with anyone. Just laying a bar at a time. Though many wish he would ‘beast’ out more on a track. A little attitude and to add weight to the verses.
