PROJECT #REVIEW: ME TALKING POETRY by Bebewan

The first of its kind ever. One poetry project presented in pieces and letters. The pieces highlight a specific line of thought and the letters also sends its unique message across. The wordplay, imagery and all other details well complemented the project, Me Talking Poetry by Bebewan.

Bebewan, a young poet, hip hop recording artiste based in Accra, release this project on his birthday sometime late last year. And so far, the reception has been awesome

Reviewing this simple but quite complicated mix bag of thoughts, 5micsGh.com presents the project review of Me Talking Poetry by Bebewan.

THE PROJECT; ME TALKING POETRY

The Project; ME TALKING POETRY is clearly one simple body of work, buried in different layers of thought. Presented in 6 pieces and 2 letters.

The 6 pieces come in A-side and B-side.

With the A-side, the first three pieces focus on everything you need to stay motivated, to get you up and running to go for your goal.

And the B-side, tells it all in the next three pieces when the moon come up and it’s cool, calm, collected and lovely. Don’t enjoy these pieces alone, let your partner be your guest.

PRODUCTION ON ME TALKING POETRY

Thumbs up the one creatively energetic Big Boy Darling for holding the whole project down on production. Not all vibes would have complimented this project like the well crafted melodies played by Big Boy Darling.

THE HIGHLIGHTED PIECE

The project opens with a call to ARISE AND SHINE. A good morning bit to feed on. The whole piece gets you up and running to a point were the next one comes in to share something on the mind.

This piece compares the mind to a land. Like any cash crop plantation, you can reap more when you actively engage your mind.

‘Your MIND is a land you can cultivate’

‘There is cash in each crop, so calculate’

Obviously a call to get to work and make use of it.

PRANK talks about something you don’t want to talk about. Comes in as everything you think you have or want but at the end of the day you have its mirage to deal with in reality.

Love is well featured in these simple pieces. Poetry is beautiful and pieces like the MOMENT, EGO and PRIVACY all present lovely wordplay on love. How each moment with your lover is special. And it is very important not to engage your ego in relationships and always keep it close and private with all your relationship details.

THE BITTERSWEET EXPERIENCE

Two sides to a coin and certainly sometimes we cry and sometimes we laugh. The bittersweet experience is well embedded in the two letters featured on the project.

CELL 64

A letter by an inmate on death sentence who has less than twenty-four hours to live. This letters highlights his life story, the good, the bad and the very ugly that landed him in prison.

‘’ the evils of Luci and the demand for Gucci’’

The above line from the letter summarizes his fight against the devil and how his demand for material things also influenced some of his decisions. Cell 64 shares his bitter moments on the project.

MY STRAWBERRY LETTER

A total opposite of Cell 64, a love letter from a lover overseas to his beloved who is in the motherland. Missing your lover’s birthday is a big deal. The beauty of this letter lies in how the persona clearly weighs the birthday of his lover and the birthday of their love. And draws a line between them, talks above love from his point of view, the challenges and the prospects.

NEXT TIME PRESENT FULL PIECES AND NOT SIMPLE ‘PIECES’

It is quite hard to deal with the sharp ending of the pieces. Just when you are caught on and waiting to be fed more all of a sudden it ends. The letters make you ask yourself, why different he make all full works.

Next time you work on a body of work, make it uniform so that your fans can appreciate and enjoy it fully.
